As a country abundant in renewable energy resources, Mongolia presents a unique opportunity to achieve sustainable solutions in the mining sector. However, despite proven renewable technology and a renewable-rich country, most mining companies have yet to adopt renewable solutions. The methodology employed in this study encompasses several key steps. Firstly, an overview of the legal frameworks and regulations about renewable energy deployment in the mining sector in Mongolia is conducted. Next, a concept design phase is undertaken, integrating solar, wind, energy storage, and diesel generators to create an off-grid hybrid system tailored to the mine's energy requirements. Considerations such as load demand, resource availability, and system reliability are taken into account during the design phase. Modeling and simulation techniques are employed to assess performance and feasibility, evaluating various scenarios to meet energy needs while minimizing diesel fuel usage and CO2 emissions. Furthermore, a detailed business case is developed, considering the initial capital investment, operational costs, and potential financial benefits of the renewable microgrid system. The analysis includes factors such as the payback period, return on investment (ROI), and levelized cost of electricity (LCOE), providing insights into the economic viability of the system for mining operations in Mongolia. The analysis revealed that incorporating a wind turbine in the off-grid hybrid system increased the renewable energy fraction from 28.6% (PV + energy storage) to 88.1% (PV+ energy storage + wind turbine), resulting in a significant reduction in the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) and operating costs over the life of the mine. However, PV energy systems with a peak capacity of 6 MW offered a more reliable and consistent energy source compared to wind turbines due to low wind speeds and higher installation costs associated with taller hub heights (>50m).Item Financial Management for decision makers(PEARSON, 2020) Peter AtrillItem Design of the Electric Load Carrying Platform(GMIT, 2023) Tuguldur Sumiya; Odbileg Norovrenchin; Sungchil LeeThe electric load carrying platform is an essential tool for material handling applications, designed to reduce the physical strain and risk of injury associated with moving heavy loads. This thesis focuses on the design principles and techniques for electric load carrying platforms, with the goal of improving their functionality, usability, and safety. Through an literature review and case studies, this thesis explores various design aspects of load carrying platforms, such as material selection, structural design, and wheel configuration. Furthermore, the thesis investigates the use of advanced technologies in electric load carrying platform design, such as automation, sensing systems, and IoT integration. The thesis evaluates the benefits and limitations of these technologies, highlighting their potential to enhance the performance, reliability, and safety of load carrying platforms. By providing a comprehensive analysis of the design considerations and strategies for electric load carrying platforms, this thesis aims to contribute to the ongoing efforts to improve material handling practices and reduce the risk of work-related injuries. The data was categorized by region and analyzed using the Weibull distribution to determine the monthly mean wind speed and wind power density.Item The Digitalization of Project Management in Road Construction of Mongolia(GMIT, 2023) Naranmandakh Batdorj; Enkhzaya Chuluunbaatar; Sungchil Lee; Jerome Lange; T.ByambaDigital transformation has become a critical concept in the construction industry, offering new possibilities for optimizing project management, improving efficiency, and reducing costs. However, Mongolia's road construction sector has a range of challenges, including limited resources, a fragmented supply chain, and a need for more modern infrastructure. This thesis explores the importance of digital transformation and the LEAN construction method in the Mongolian road construction industry. Furthermore, it examines the opportunities and challenges of implementing digital technology and a LEAN management approach. Using a survey and data analysis research design, we surveyed specialized road construction engineers and member companies of the Mongolian Road Association to gather data on the current state of digital methods and project management approaches in the industry. We also conducted a mock study of LEAN Construction software and management approaches to assess its potential for improving project management in the road construction sector.Item OHS factor analysis and probability to control selected types of incidents: Case study MAK LLC(GMIT, 2023) Narangarav Batsaikhan; Otgonbayar; Mathias Bauer; SumiyadorjThis case study investigates the connection between occupational health and safety (OHS) and the costs incurred by an organization, with a particular emphasis placed on direct labor, and it suggests strategies for cutting both direct and indirect costs. The research is carried out at Mongolyn Alt (MAK) LLC, which currently has Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) being broadly adopted throughout the organization as a whole. The purpose of this project is to highlight the significance of OHS in lowering the costs that are associated with worker injuries and, illnesses and minimizing the impact on the production process. As part of the research, we will be looking at international OHS standards and developing standardized documentation that is specific to the Mongolian setting. The research recommends one change as a way to illustrate how the influence of a single variable can have a lasting effect on production costs and volume. At MAK LLC, the long-term objective is to eliminate expenditures that are linked with workplace injuries and to foster an atmosphere that is both sustainable and productive in the workplace.Item Identification of Potential Location of Pond Sites for Irrigating Agriculture and Forestry Land Based on Watershed Analysis Using GIS(GMIT, 2023) Margad-Erdene Tumenbayar; Enkhjargal Sodnomdarjaa; Gantuya GanbatThe identification of potential locations for pond sites plays a crucial role in sustainable water resource management for irrigated agriculture and forestry land. This study focuses on utilizing watershed analysis techniques in combination with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to identify suitable locations for constructing ponds. The objectives of the study are to assess water availability, identify suitable sites, and recommend areas for afforestation that uses near water sources. In this study, Watershed and Stream Network Analysis were done in the Kherlen Soum area in Khentii Province. Also using the ArcGIS program some additional analyses such as hillshade, slope, and basin delineation. Since Mongolia has a continental climate with extreme temperature differences, it is important to study when the seeds should be planted.
