    The application of microbiological methods to the extraction of metals from minerals has gained a prominent role. It is supported by several bioleaching and biooxidation processes operating at different sites worldwide. In recent years, new techniques and new results about proteomics and bioinformatics have brought a new perspective on microbial processes.
